Can you help add books to the library?

Dear Parents,

As we strive to create a vibrant and diverse reading environment for our students, we are reaching out to our wonderful parent community for support. Our school library is a hub of learning and imagination, and we believe that adding new books to our collection will further enhance the educational experience for our students.

If you would like to make a contribution towards expanding our library, we would be immensely grateful. To make the process easier, we have compiled a wish list of specific titles and genres that we believe would be valuable additions to our shelves.

We understand that everyone has different means and availability, so any contribution, big or small, will be highly appreciated. Your involvement in this endeavor not only benefits the current students but also fosters a sense of community and shared commitment to the growth and development of our school.

If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your continued support in creating a rich literary landscape for our students.

Warm regards,

Mrs. Reavis

Book Ideas

Below are books we would love to have added to the library.  If you have any of these, or if you would like to donate, please send them to Jane Addams library.  Thank you for your help!

What about other book donations?

We would gladly look at any book you have to offer.  However, the district has a strict criteria that must be followed:

  • Book must be in good condition.

    • This does not mean it has to be new, but it must be one we can have for many years to come.

  • Book must be relevant.

    • It must have current information and must appeal to Elementary school students.  An example might be a book about Pluto.  If the book lists Pluto as a planet, we cannot add it because Pluto is considered a dwarf planet.

  • Must be age appropriate.

    • If a book is listed as a middle school book, chances are we will not be able to add it to the library.  Specific subjects and words may also be declined.

  • Must be 10 years or newer.

    • This one is not so set in stone.  For instance, a book about The Three Pigs might be added because the story has never changed and is considered a fairy tale.  Please ask, if you have any questions on this.

If you would like to have a book reviewed, please send it to Jane Addams and we can review it.  Let us know what you would like us to do with the book(s) if we are not able to add it to the collection (Examples:  return it, throw it away etc.)

Other Ways to Help

We understand you are helping in the classrooms and that is much appreciated!  But, if you would like to add some time to the library, these are some of the ways that are needed at this time:

  • Shelve books - if you remember the Dewey decimal system, we could always use your help!

  • Make sure spines are facing out -  Our students are so excited to look at different books that they can forget how to put the book back properly.

  • Place stickers on the books - A librarian can show you what needs to be done.
